Update: Added new photos. Another update: Added video.
On Saturday February 25, 2006, Emerica pros Andrew Reynolds, Kevin “Spanky” Long, Bryan Herman and Leo Romero met up with Heath Kirchart for a signing during the Grand Opening of his new Subsect skate shop in Urbandale, Iowa. A huge throng of over 300 amped-up Kids that lived within a three-hour driving range showed up. It was awesome! The boys signed posters for every kid who wanted one.
After the signing, we made our way over to Skate South skatepark, where hundreds of kids were waiting to get into the demo. Once the crowd of approximately 550 entered the park, the demo was on. Drew, Spanky, Leo, Heath (who had just started skating again after getting hit by a car back in December) and Emerica flow riders Marquis Preston and DJ Fort skated hard for two hours straight, nailing tricks left and right.
It was good to see Heath back on his board and throwing down huge backside airs on the vert wall. The crowd was definitely stoked to watch the carnage go down on the street course, as well. The demo ended after everyone skated to exhaustion, then the Emerica product toss ensued. Thanks to Heath and everyone at Subsect and Skate South for having us out, and a special “thank you” to all the kids who showed up to meet the team and watch them skate. It was great to see you all. We’ll have to do it again someday!
