We just received the following email:
"Hey there, my Emerican pals!
My name is Igor K-Pk, I live in Belarus. Some of my interests and activities includes skateboarding, literature, indie/DIY culture, music and poetry. Well, what really matters is that I’m a poet and a skateboarder. Being stoked on English language, I write both in English and Russian.
In comments to blog post "The Meaning of Stay Gold" someone noted that the phrase "Stay Gold" origins from "The Outsiders," Susan E. Hinton’s book. What’s more interesting, it was a poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost that inspired Susan.
My poem, in turn, is a mix of philosophy and adoration towards skateboarding. Its first line is more of a personal (it opens a subject of my relationships with publishers), but others speak for itself. All in all, a poem’s about keeping doing what you like despite you have had periods of no luck etc.
“Stay Gold” by radiokoala
Have sent ‘em letters – no reply
and still I was able
to stay gold; 7-ply
canadian maple
made my days
coefficient of bails could be high
but all I know is wheels 'n' wood
are as loyal as dogs are
worries behind,
life is not about worries
unexplored spots are
waiting for tourists,
for Columbus the skater…
after you slam you gotta rise
landing of trick is a question of tries.
PS. My special thanks go to Ed Templeton and Mark Gonzales who had proved us art and skateboarding could coexist in perfect harmony. (And what’s especially sick is the fact Mark has a few poetry collections!)"
