June 21st, 2011 - The day skateboarders took over Los Angeles at Wild In The Streets! Here's how it went down...
Noon... The crowd swelling to critical mass at our meeting spot, Hollenbeck plaza. Everybody's getting psyched!
The Emerica crew arrives and immediately proceeds with an impromptu demo.
Suddenly, and without warning, the crowd starts moving and takes to the streets. It's on!
Unfortunately, the cops have prepared and aren't having none of it. Blocking the way, we're forced to retreat back to Hollenbeck.
The man with the plan, Mark Waters, rallies the troops, and goes for plan B...
Maps are handed out to the front runners.
Second take as the crowd heads out from Hollenbeck with Andrew Reynolds and Bryan Herman in the pack.
Finally, we break free from the cops' grip with Braydon Szafranski and stars-and-stripes dude leading the way.
Aaron Suski rolling out!
We head towards the 6th st. bridge heading into downtown.
Unfortunately, the cops are quick to catch up and start putting on the heat.
Over the 6th st. bridge, we head into downtown with the sirens chasing close behind.
The cops coming out in full effect. Yes - they even called for air support as the helicopter followed us along the entire route.
Drew leading the charge!
By this time, the cops really start harassing us and several people are taken down. Good work, LAPD.
Past downtown, thinned out groups push on along the route.
The cops are making it even worse and many more skaters are caught and unnecessarily cited for infractions or misdemeanors, including yours truly.
Finally, the survivors arrive at the end point at the Carl's Jr. plaza in Lafayette park.
More skating commences, and interviews are given to clueless news outlets.
We did it! Leo Romero, Jerry Hsu, Collin Provost, Justin Figueroa, Bryan Herman and the rest of the crew celebrate!
Until next time LA....
Thanks to everyone for coming out!
