Josiah Gatlyn
Goldsboro, North Carolina

Fifteen-year-old Josiah Gatlyn is the kind of skater that I remember being when I was his age. Josiah lives in a small town, so there are probably not too many spots that are easily accessible to someone who isn’t old enough to drive. You just gotta skate what you can. Josiah has a wide variety of footage in this video, which is always a good thing. It's edited pretty well and the filming is decent. He also has good board control, which is obvious by his flip trick variations. I like Josiah’s 360 flips, he does them really proper.

One thing that I noticed about Josiah’s video is that the tricks he does, even though they are good, are done down fairly small rails, gaps and drops. If you’re trying to get sponsored, you really need to do your tricks at the same level or beyond the average amateur skateboarder. Doing tricks down six stairs isn't really cutting it when everyone in the videos and mags are doing the same tricks down much bigger obstacles. That being said, I realize that Goldsboro probably doesn’t have a bunch of perfect 10 stair sets or the best spots. My advice to Josiah is to take some risk, charge it and go bigger.

I can tell that Josiah really enjoys skateboarding, and if he sticks with it, he’ll naturally progress and skate more challenging spots. Thanks, Josiah, for sending in your video this month. Enjoy your free pair of Emerica shoes!--Jeff Henderson

The B.Herman in Stores Now!

The long wait is finally over! It's high time for all of you loyal Emericans to skate as fast as you can down to your local skate shop and buy a pair of Bryan Herman's first-ever pro model shoe, the B.Herman by Emerica.

Simple, good-looking and right in between thin and bulky, the B.Herman has arrived to rave reviews. Despite the spare exterior, the shoe is packed with subtle details like a cactus keychain hangtag, metal rivets and a unique System G2™ Six Shooter-shaped gel cushion, which is exclusive to this model and is visible through a nice little round window in the heel.

Fresh from the high desert, the B.Herman is ready for shredding. Young Emericans rising!

Team Report 03-30-05

Emerica pro Heath Kirchart’s interview in the brand-new issue 14 of The Skateboard Mag has finally dropped, and it is insane! Fellow Emerica teammate Ed Templeton conducted the interview, which brings out interesting sides of Heath the public has never experienced before. (Especially considering Heath has rarely ever spoken in any of his past "interviews", which were almost completely filled with photos.) It’s pretty funny to read this new interview, and the photos are amazing, as well. Nice work, Heath!

Also in the same issue of The Skateboard Mag, Emerica pro Leo Romero got some photos in an article about a random little four-day trip to Hawaii with Justin Eldridge. Leo has been filming his part for TransWorld’s upcoming video, First Love, which will be out this Summer.
