The Observable Universe
By Jerry Hsu
July 2 - August 1
Please join us for an exhibition of new work by Jerry Hsu. Opening reception: Tuesday, July 2. 7-9 pm.
Unlike much of Hsu's photography, there are no people in the Observable Universe. Hsu's work is still documentary in approach, but more than his street photography and portraiture, The Observable Universe is premeditated - Hsu seeking out curious, unpopulated scenes, purposefully composing his images. They are weird and forensic-looking: a giant blood stain on an abandoned mattress, a mangled jungle gym, a melting ice sculpture by the side of the road. Hsu is confused by what is there, the image bolstering that mystery, rather than solving it.
