Andrew Reynolds Sugar Mag Cover!

First it was the kickflip fakie on the cover of Concrete. Then it was the Wallenburg backside flip on the cover of Thrasher. The third time was an absolute charm with a Bercy big five back heel on the cover of The Skateboard Mag. Now, Emerica legend Andrew Reynolds loosens up his gnar boots for a lil' quarterpipe fun on the brand-new cover of French skate mag Sugar. That's four covers so far this year for Drew. I guess that's why they call him The Boss! As if that weren't enough, peep the absolutely massive 18-page article inside Sugar about Emerica's Terreur Tour through France back in May. Each team rider got his very own spread!

Antoine Asselin Claims Second at Am Getting Paid!

As the third annual Am Getting Paid contest in Montreal, Canada draws to a close, we are very proud to look back on such a special event with so many great skateboarders. Adding an extra day helped make the contest run more smoothly and welcomed more amateurs to battle it out for the $15,000 prize.

Friday was a very important night for the Underworld skate team, when they held a world premiere for Yesterday’s Future, a video that they have been working on for the last few years. The place was packed, the drinks were full and the skating was definitely next level. For more info and to view the teaser, check the link just above.

Day two of the contest on Saturday displayed some of the best skateboarding all weekend. Magnus Hanson and Nick Merlino had fun all day and destroyed all the obstacles at South Parc. Jordan Hoffart and Keegan Sauder were some of the smoothest and most powerful skateboarders at the contest. Lastly, Chazz Ortiz blew the crowd away with his impressive skills, consistency and courage. Did we mention he is only 12 years old!

On Saturday night, the Am Getting Laid party went down, headlined by Wu Tang’s legendary Raekwon. With over 300 people trying to get into this sold-out private party, the energy was at an all-time high. People chanted the choruses while chef Raekwon ripped the lyrics.

Sunday was the final day of the event and it was time to separate the men from the boys. Micky Papa lead the way throughout the whole Semi-Finals with tricks such as kickflip backside Smiths and switch tré flips down the stairs. But when the Finals came around, Ryan Decenzo from Vancouver, Canada took home first place and a hefty check.

He produced flawless runs all weekend, mixing tech and smooth styles on a consistent basis run after run. Taking second and third place respectively were Emerica Canada team rider and local Antoine Asselin, and Detroit’s Dustin Blauvelt. It would be impossible to name all the other notables over the weekend since the skating was at such a high level.

Next up was the Best Trick event on four obstacles. Nick Merlino and Dustin Blauvelt were the only ones who hit the big rail. Amid a bunch of skateboarders all busting out and getting paid, Manny Santiago ended up taking home the most money with a huge bag of tricks.

We would like to thank all the skateboarders, sponsors and parents who made this event possible. For more info and to check out the teaser for this weekend's festivities please visit the Am Getting Paid site. The full-length DVD will be released in January.

Alex rips! I definitely have more positive things to say about this video than negative. His style is really good, considering his age. The only thing that I saw in the video that I didn’t like was the switch pop-shove down the Chino four. It looks like Alex is falling off his board right when it fades. That could have been left out, but everything else was cool. The pop-shove down the 11 stair–the second to last trick–was sick. I’ve been to that set, and it’s pretty big. Keep up the shredding, Alex, and keep sending in footage. Enjoy your free pair of Emerica shoes!--Jeff Henderson
